Come out and support JHR's panel discussion on March 6th. We'll be discussing the city's response to sheltering the homeless this winter.

on the city's winter respite centres

We will be hosting a panel discussion on where we'll reflect on Toronto's response to winter respite centres for the homeless. Panelists at the event will be Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam, Toronto street nurse Cathy Crowe, and Director of Transitional Housing at Egale Youth Centre Clare Nobbs. The panel will be held in the Venn (Rogers Communication Centre 103) from 1 - 2 p.m. There will also be refreshments and admission is free. Join JHR Ryerson on Nov. 20th for a screening of The Good Lie directed by Philippe Falardeau! 

Human Rights Movie Night

We will be screening The Good Lie, a film about a group of Sudanese refugees that are given the chance to resettle in America and arrive in Kansas City. The film will take place in RCC 103 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. We will have a Q&A session after the movie with Andrew Ochan, a former child soldier. SHADES OF OUR SISTERS

 JHR screened Shades of Our Sisters on March 31. The documentary project was conceived by the Carpenter Family, the Cywink Family and eight Ryerson media production students.

Shades Of Our Sisters is a fourth-year feature documentary project made by Ryerson RTA students which aims to acknowledge, honour and celebrate the lives of just two of the 1,200+ Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Transgender and Two Spirit peoples. The film follows the lives, spirit, and memories of Sonya Cywink and Patricia Carpenter. A Q&A with the filmmakers and family will follow. Admission is free.
